What is the fund?

As a climate-focused fund, VIF2 invests in early-stage, technology-driven companies that enhance climate resilience and foster inclusive growth, with a strong emphasis on scalable impact and gender inclusion. With a 13-year lifespan, the fund provides patient capital to ensure portfolio companies receive the support needed to scale and achieve long-term impact.
What are the priorities?
VIF2 aligns with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by applying a climate and gender impact investment lens, with a primary focus on ADB’s developing member countries (DMCs) in Southeast Asia and South Asia.
The fund targets climate technologies, including clean energy, sustainable agriculture, mobility, and circular economy solutions. It also prioritizes innovations that generate climate impact while expanding economic opportunities for vulnerable communities and innovations addressing the interconnected challenges of water, food, and energy security.
What is VIF2’s investment approach?
VIF2 plans to make up to $4 million per investment, primarily in the form of equity and quasi-equity investments. VIF2 will allocate significant capital for follow-on investments, ensuring continued support for high-potential portfolio companies as they scale. ADB Ventures aims to mobilize at least $200 million in private capital through co-investments.
Who is eligible for financing?
All DMCs are eligible for ADB Ventures support. Since ADB Ventures operates as a non-sovereign platform under ADB’s Private Sector Operations Department, only private sector companies or entities are eligible for assistance. While companies can be domiciled globally, their impact must be within a DMC, with a primary focus on South and Southeast Asia.
Who supports the fund?
VIF2 receives contributions from multiple partners, including bilateral and multilateral development institutions—many of whom also supported VIF1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Clean Technology Fund by the Climate Investment Funds are among the first investors to VIF2—ADB Ventures' climate fund.
